The Hilton Garden Inn Santiago Airport, Chile

Hotel Review: -

The Hilton Garden Inn

Santiago Airport
Chile

  • Location - Americo Vespucio Ave 1292 Pudahuel, Santiago, Chile. Five minutes by car or shuttle transfer from the airport. Half an hour without traffic into the city centre.
  • Quality - Excellent - This hotel is quite new.
  • Service - Very helpful -  plenty of English.
  • Highlight - Airport hotels are normally quite ordinary but, partly because it is so new, this one is an exception.
  • Bedding and bathrooms - Crisp linen and nice bathrooms.
  • Would I recommend this hotel - Yes; but only for a one or two night stop. It is too far from the city centre to be a base for seeing Santiago.

What can I say? This is an airport hotel; clean, modern, comfortable and new but an airport hotel nevertheless. The Holiday Inn is closer. Just walk across the air bridge. However we are Hilton Honors Gold members. All other things being equal, we are always going to opt for the Hilton chain.

A step or two down in the hierarchy from a standard Hilton, the Garden Inns have everything you need; complimentary Wi-Fi, restaurants, room service, gyms, nice breakfasts and (generally) on-site coin-operated laundries. What you don't get are fancy extras like flashy foyers and gift shops, which seem to add so much to the room price. For a full list of Garden Inn facilities - click here

Five minutes from the airport by free shuttle The Garden Inn, Santiago is brilliantly located if you are headed west to Valparaiso and the coast. Valparaiso is an easy two and a half hours drive along the the Costanera Nte and Route 68. Read more on our visit to Valparaiso here.

If you have time visit the Casablanca Valley wine region on your way. It is worth calling in at the Casas del Bosque Winery just for the sheer opulence of the surroundings. It feels a bit like you have just stepped back into Ancient Rome. You'll need to register with the guard as you drive in but we explained that we wanted to buy a bottle of wine and had no trouble. I can highly recommend their Chardonnay!  If you have the time, book ahead for a tour or lunch and spend the whole day there but don't even think about eating in the restaurant if you are on a tight schedule. Chileans give new meaning to the term 'long lunch'.

Going east the Costanera Nte takes about half an hour to get into central Santiago. It's a freeway the whole way. I wouldn't recommend using the Garden Inn as a base for seeing Santiago though. The area surrounding the hotel is nothing but freeways and wasteland. It looks like there are plans to build a much larger hotel precinct but right now the Garden Inn is out on its own - no shops, restaurants or facilities other than at the hotel itself.
